BLUEPRINTS for Bliss

Consider this… Did you know when most people are asked what they really want in life they stumble to find an answer?

What if your life and the limit of all you might accomplish was determined by your answer?

If an architect asked you how you wanted your home to be designed, your answer would most likely include; one or more bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, etc. making sure your needs are met. But when it comes to your life that kind of clarity can be elusive.

Our world can amplify this confusion with its distractions and things designed with the express purpose of fueling desires for even more ‘things’… It’s no wonder so many of us don’t know how to answer the question, “What do I want?”

A better question to ask is, “Who am I?”

Ex: If you are a marathon runner, you would want the most comfortable and supportive running shoes, weather appropriate clothes and anything that would support you being the best marathon runner you could be.

Consider inquiring into the question, “Who am I?” to be perhaps the most important and generous endeavor you’ll ever undertake. I say this because in fact our lives are profoundly related. Our hearts swell and break for one another every day and when one of us reaches our full potential the rest of us are lifted and when one of us ignores our potential, it’s everyone’s loss and that loss is immeasurable.

In short, your bliss is important to all of us! That’s why I’ve created this starter kit for designing your own ’Blueprints for Bliss’ …I selfishly want you to be the best you, you can be!

DESIGNING YOUR BLUEPRINT:

In the center of your blueprint place an image, word or symbol that represents you. If you choose a photo, it can be a singular portrait of you in an idyllic setting or enjoying an activity you love, or one with friends, family, spouse, team or work mates… If you prefer using a word or symbol make sure it inspires you.

  • Label each space/area of your blueprint
  • Assess each area: using a “0” – “10” (0=not happy 10=totally happy).
  • Design each area to achieve an overall “10”. Populate each area with words and images that describe your vision/plan.
  • Test for Bliss: to gauge whether your plan will ultimately bring you true bliss or not, imagine that it already exists and you’re living the life you’ve designed. Now ask yourself these 2 questions;

1) “Does this bring me true joy?” (…be brutally honest!)

2) “Now what?” (…this answer should set you sailing!)

  • Recruit your Team: all things great and small are more fun to achieve and more sustainable with the support of a team. Your team might already be in your life just waiting for their uniforms and positions…supportive family, encouraging friends, inspiring teachers and experts…

After you’ve designed your blueprint, keep it in sight. Just like an architect who refers to their plan for guidance as they build, you too will need to be that diligent about building your life and maintaining the space for all that supports you…
